Description

Let yourself be surprised by the incredible illumination of Athens at night, led by our official guides in Spanish and discover the charm of some of its most representative illuminated corners, as well as curiosities and tips about the city. The Academy of Athens awaits us to begin this walking tour and head to the Old Parliament, which currently houses the National Historical Museum. We will walk along Ermou Street, the main commercial street of the Greek capital, until we reach the church of Agia Dynamis, a small Orthodox temple from the 16th century. To delve into the details of the Orthodox religion we will go to Mitropoleos Square, where we will find the Cathedral of the Annunciation of Saint Mary and the Church of Agios Eleftherios, also known as the Mini Cathedral. In the old neighborhood of Plaka we will visit the Benizelos Mansion, as well as the charming area of Anafiotika, characterized by its narrow streets on the slopes of the Acropolis. The peculiarities of the Church of Agios Nikolaos Rangavas await us before heading to the Gate of Athena and the Flea Market, two places that have not lost their essence over time. We will end our tour in the Thissio neighborhood, with views of the Acropolis, where our guides will be able to answer your questions or give you some advice and recommendations on where to shop, what to have for dinner... From December 6th to January 6th, we will take advantage of our night walk to discover the peculiarities of Christmas in Greece and its capital. The main streets and squares of the city are dressed up with bright lights and festive decorations. As we walk through some of its main corners, we will not only enjoy the Christmas atmosphere, but we will also discover some of its main customs and traditions. Did you know that many Greek families decorate boats instead of Christmas trees? We will also be surprised by the figure of the kallikantzaroi, with the tradition of the Blessing of the Waters or we will learn what calandas are. In addition, we will learn about the importance of typical Greek gastronomy during Christmas, with sweets such as kourabiedes, melomakarona or Vasilopita. Καλά Χριστούγεννα!
